Doonesbury:
(Doon's elderly senile mother has disappeared from home)
Doon: What time? Who cares? I went to check on her this morning and she was just gone!
She could have escaped anytime during the night?
911 policewoman: Okey, so the word "escaped" has got my attention sir…
Doon: Wandered off! Wandered off!
Lesson: Typical W admin attitude: You are a guy. You are engaging me in dialog (looking for assistance). All I want to know is what reason can I used to block you.
Prickly City:
(Wilson is running for President of USA '08, with Carmen as his running mate)
Wilson: It's true, Carmen. I have been seeing another running mate outside my ticket.
Offstage: Obama's only ahead 'cause he's a Negro.
Wilson: But Geraldine Ferraro means nothing to me.
(Now obviously offstage voice is Ferraro): Heck… I was only on the ticket in '84 cause I have ovaries.
Lesson: Geraldine is precise in her language: she states the issue as literally as possibly.

Dear Abby: I have been dating "Jim," a single father of an 18-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter, "Jenna." On nights she's with Jim, she shares a bed with him.
I no longer bring up the subject. I guess you could say Jim and I have agreed to disagree. However, I don't think a 13-year-old girl should be sharing a bed with her father.
Jenna also shares her father's master bedroom and closet with him as if she were his wife. When she visits, she never sets foot in her own room or bathroom.
I haven't said anything to Jenna because I don't want to upset her, but I think it's inappropriate for Jim to continue allowing her to sleep with him. Should I let it go? I have voiced my opinion before, and it has caused several heated arguments. What are your thoughts on this?
Sleeping With One Eye Open in Oklahoma
Dear Sleeping: Jenna is no longer a child, and frankly, to continue this practice is inappropriate and potentially stimulating for both of them.
Clip this column and share it with Jim. Perhaps it will help him to rethink his stance on this.
(…and if that does not work, call 911)
Folks, this is a grey area. I like highlight it because it forces people to take a stand between freedom for this man and various levels of intervention. It is a divisive issue, but you should still be able to alternate between talking seriously about it and making fun of it.
The same goes for how Sexual Harassment is on hair-trigger. Pretty female managers touch their supposed friends and subordinates and get away with it. Touching children is another hot-button issue where male school teachers can watch their career disappear in a moment. When was the last time you saw a male grade school teacher for below the fifth grade? That is because children can be clingy up to about that age and only women are allow to do something because run away from such children as if they were infected with AIDS and wanted to bite you.

Only a brass plaque on a tombstone-size rock now marks this site, where events in 1912 changed the world profoundly and forever. It was here that radio pioneer Lee De Forest, working for the Federal Telephone Company, coaxed the Audion (triode) vacuum tube he had invented earlier to function as an amplifier of electrical signals. With that, electronics and our Global Village were born.
