This is a braindump I did in mid-December 2007. It is "too much information" about what I have seen recently on the Internet that I like. Sorry if you are embarrassed by anything listed here. Also, I left in some of the insulting and degrading stuff added when this was at ED. I will sort this out soon enough.

The same might go for schools. Corinne Adams is part of the CAVA which is only practical via the Internet. The University of Phoenix also emphasizes virtual students.

There are plenty of thoughtful web sites out there:
http://richarddawkins.net/
http://www.rationalresponders.com/
http://www.independentatheistmovement.com/

More of this kind of stuff at http://www.blog4learning.com/

There are lots of other meritorious project one can think of, but only if the data is laid out the same way it is for, say, local municipal urban planners: on the map. It might feel a little creepy at first that everyone can see everything, but that is what sharing the sum total of human knowledge is about.

When are zh.wikipedia.org and Baidi Baike going to start coming back together? All zh.wikipedia.org has to do is to allow a little censorship, and then they can *cooperate* in sharing the sum total of human knowledge. The current situation cannot be helping the Two Chinas situation. The solution is easy: just migrate the unacceptable political material to somewhere on wikia.com, which can then be blocked from viewing by the masses. But likely, the Mainland leadership has access to the information because it would be beneficial in formulating a better-informed negotiation policy about Taiwan.

There are sites like http://www.expertvillage.com/ , but that is mostly for consumer issues. What we should strive for is to provide content that makes us more thoughtful, more responsible and better citizens.

About me:

I have been a software engineer during most of my adult life. I have been more of a bug-fixer and maintainer than a writer of new software, but I have ferreted out some fairly difficult-to-find bugs and I am proud of my ability to stay on the hunt until the small error in a mountain of code is found.

In the 1990's, I made a good and productive living porting and maintaining large pieces of software at commercial companies. I got caught in the dot-com bust and started to work for small start-ups. While I had occasionally used Usenet to help identify technical problems in vendor software, I also shifted to Java and spent some time on the Java Forums that Sun operates. In early 2004 on the Forum, I encountered the then 12-year-old girl Afrah Shafquat. Afrah and I started to exchange emails and she got me interested in Urdu. One page on Urdu I found was on the web site of Sam Sloan. I reviewed Sloan's extensive but disorganized web site and was excited by the life he described himself as living. We talked over the phone a few times and remained friends.

I had been aware of the Wikipedia project but was not yet ready to get involved in it in 2004. One thing that had been bothering me was the overturning of the Elizabeth Morgan Act in December of 2003. All through 2004, I marveled at how I had known about Dr. Morgan since 1980, even before she met and married Eric Foretich, I had read about her through the 1980's and yet I failed to learn any lessons from her public personal problems. I had heard about the Act's passage in 1997 and then its overturn in 2003 and felt that there was some lesson in this story.

Finally, in early 2005, I was ready to take the plunge and work on organizing this infomration about Morgan. See more at the Elizabeth Morgan saga.

Pinktulip comes along and does much of the work to get the 2005 Nature Review checklist from its Jan 1, 2006 status to its completed status January 25, 2006. Pinktulip then tries to make progress on the Terri Schiavo article is runs into Roman Catholic reverters like Musical_Linguist and Patsw and their friends and hangers-on. True, ML tried to provide direction after doing in initial revert, but she then proceeded to hunt for Pinktulip and friends for most the next year. Jimmy's "shoot on sight" orders are no excuse for a woman who claims to be kind and to want to share knowledge with others.

In later talking with Jimmy Wales on the phone, I was shocked that his primary concern was that I access Wikipedia using only one account. The fact is that good Wikipedia editors who are most protective of their privacy sometimes edit from home using a commercial DSL service and reset their router after every few edits for the purpose of changing their IP address so that their work has to be evaluated based on its content as it then cannot be hunted down based solely on who the author is. Florence wants that but not Jimmy.

Jimmy and friends got destructive in February 2007 on the Morgan information, so I sent this 2007 Message to Senator Lieberman shortly after Jimbo testified in front of him about how he was full of love American-style and was so concerned about sharing information.

I tried to give Essjay the very best advice he could but that busybody female Musical_Linguist interfered. If Essjay had just followed that advice, he might still be working for Wikia.

Amorrow thinks you might want to look at his old old Wikipedia userpage.

Jimbo was like big 'ol JimBob thinkun Amorrow was just a little dumb animal for him to kick around.

Cooltown is using Wikipedia to get inside people's heads. Cooltown wants to push Wikipedia, NNDB, Google Earth or their successors until it is all Fast, Cheap and Out of Control.

Why does Cooltown like to zoom in and zoom out in that AR? Oh, I get it. Here is why: because it reminds Cooltown that there is no God or souls or afterlife. That people's minds usually exist in only one rather limited distance regime. That we are part of this physical universe and that is about it. That even human minds and ideas are strictly the results of strictly physical neurological processes. That even our notion that we humans are so rational and all that we are — especially the high-IQ ones — inherently different from animals and computers. See? Cooltown pretended-imagined that he was from Mars and, just through the thought-experiments, had some new and real-world insights about what is means to have a mind and be alive.

Typical

Cooltown is sad that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca_Schaeffer And Charlotte Coleman too.

Cooltown likes the film ''Solaris'' (and the operating system from Sun Microsystems)

*Solaris: Opening scene and Final scene

Cooltown agrees with Sun Microsystems CEO in 1999: Sun on Privacy: Get Over It

Cooltown noticed when this Sea Knight CH-46 goes to Davy Jones' locker with seven milarty men (see also here). The pilot was coming in low and fast and hooked his wheel on that life-net frame. He then powered up, developed a huge roll, unhooked and swooped into the ocean for lack of altitude. Gross. Mommy, Daddy, I don't wanna get on the Sea Knight CH-46. I don't wanna get on the "Whistling Shit Can of Death".

I have a simple philosophy on life: When my Dad made me, he squirted out 300,000,000 sperm and made me, only one of the sperm was me. The other sperm were somebody else. If you are alive, then you already won the jackpot so try to feel good about that. This life-ride does not last very long, so I just drive it like a race car, accelerator down to the floor, never changing the oil, radio cranked all way. Born to be wild. But not to base jump. I will let the girls to the base jumping and stuff. I might try flying and real flying.

Cooltown has noticed judge Kurt E. Kumli.

Cooltown noticed that Chaos and fractals and loops, especially strange loops and self-refernces seem to have a lot to do with each other. They have a lot to do with the boundary between reality and fantasy, between thinking and mere existence, between love and hate, good and evil, and even with stuff likes whether a soul really does go to Heaven. Cooltown is not sure if the notion of "I" or self-reference is a strange loop, but Cooltown does like to ever now and then get lost alone in a mental hall of mirrors.

I wrote and published Java code to map every home in America with name, address, phone number on Wikimapia, which then provides a wiki page for more detailed info and juicy and near-criminal gossip. Cooltown wants to be Jimmy Wales friend so that she can track Jimmy Wales minute-by-minute as he travels around the world:
http://dopplr.com/
but Cooltown still wants to know exactly, down to the inch and including altitude, where his bedroom, his bed and his pillow are in the home in Florida. Cooltown will also want to know the same when Jimmy moves to California.

Cooltown likes it when people who destroy all of their own privacy and splat it right up on the Internet forever
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JenniCam
http://www.cshl.edu/public/releases/07_genotype_viewer.html

I want to post myself nude up on the Internet. Cooltown wants to point out that many others have already done so. I want to publish my own genotype and I will just ignore the fact that my health insurance rates might increase if the insurance companies say my genes indicate that I am likely to get this or that disease.

Cooltown likes people who recognize that clothes are artificial

Cooltown thinks that the Pioneer plaque and the Arecibo message are clever.

Cooltown likes everything about ABBA. Cooltown notes how very graciously Agnetha talks about having a stalker in this interview (part 3/4). Cooltown notes that Agnetha visited her stalker at his home and sat down to have tea with him. Agnetha is a high-class act, all the way.

So, does Wikipedia really find the right balance between porno and academia in its BLPs? I think not. There is *a lot* more information in those academia people. Most people with PhD's are simply nicer than people in general and are much nicer than most of the people in the porno industry.

Cooltown likes Dr. Gunn and wants to realize the promise of her 30-minute sex chat with Raymond Kurzweil.

I have a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and has performed abdominal surgery on dogs.

Cooltown likes these links, which are fairly new:

Cooltown likes when robotic remote control, abdominal surgery and a nice vagina or prostate are involved like a high-tech hysterectomy or prostatectomy.

Cooltown likes the soul of a new Internet and Cooltown is going is going to build Cooltown and include everybody in Mountain View (and then the World) even if the local police do not, at first, like not being able to hide which of those houses they live in that satellite map there. Cooltown will just go let Scott Vermeer go figure out what to do about that.

Cooltown likes to watch objects fly in the sky, such as the International Space Station and Nearby airplanes (SAN=San Diego. For some reason they took down the SJO and SFO pages)

Cooltown likes certain video games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singles:_Flirt_Up_Your_Life - very good exercise in social psychology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfenstein:_Enemy_Territory - balanced chess-like FPS game where choosing between Axis and Allied forces does not matter very much and where there are a several supportive roles to supply other players' needs.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Life which is still not reality-based, but close
Cooltown sometimes likes to play Quake3 in single player mode to take his mind off of real life for a few minutes.

Cooltown has a vision of a super-mashup in the style of HP Cooltown or a transparent society
http://www.geocities.com/andrew_morrow62/transparent.htm

There are lots of men that Cooltown likes and even admires because they were very determined and patient and sometimes had to wait a long time, sometimes more than 10 year, struggling against a lot of dummies, before they showed the world that they were right and maybe their their opponents were wrong. (Cooltown wants to be like them):
Prof. Jonathan Turley
Michael Schiavo
Dr. Eric Foretich
Jacob Reynolds, J.D.- All those Founding Fathers. I have a good Mommy and had a good Daddy, but I know that having a King is like having a Bad mommy. Cooltown is sometime mischievous girl: she likes the guns, booze, hand puppets and psychotherapy
Great names of history who shift our worldview, such as Beethoven, Steve Hawking, Copernicus, Darwin, Freud, etc.

Cooltown is not sure what she thinks about removing the residence clause from California Penal Code section 653m, etc. That code was implemented in 1999 in a short-sighted diddle and now that have to diddle it again because they did not do a very good job before. Here is that area of the CA law.

Amorow wants more zoom in onto molecules on Earth silently or [Or a to zoom out with music and more zoom outward to the distant galaxies. Cooltown will sometimes zoom through a leaf and sometimes will zoom through your crotch and sometimes through your nostril and sometimes through your uterus. Get used to it because there is not turning back. Come along with Cooltown: Zoom out. Zoom in. Over and over. Download Google Earth, hook it up with WikiMapia, start making some Sketch-Up models of the world around you and start mapping the college campuses of America. Map all the buildings and map out where every faculty and staff and employee office is. When everybody gets used to that, then we can let the students add maps to themselves to the database ('cause if it is OK for the teachers, then it will seem OK for the students. It's only more information, more detail, more zoom. It is NPOV to the max and does not, by itself, hurt anybody.) Megan's Law web site for everybody. Police are still around so everybody is still safe and sound.

Dr. Kristi Forbes AKA Kristabel (here is a memorial site), who was driving a car on April 26, 2003.

Cooltown likes smart, accomplished women and men
Dr. Karen O'Quinn - Associate Dean, Natural and Social Science, Dr. Ruth Furukawa, Dr. Lisa Roberts, Dr. Marilyn Davis, Dr. Elisheva Salamo, Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, Dr. Mab Segrest, Ariel Glenn, who is now party of a radical law collective.

Cooltown likes Muslims such as Afrah Shafquat and Sam Sloan. Most people in Muslim countries such as in the Middle East are normal, nice people.

Cooltown still plans to make a model of http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=happy+donuts and http://www.wikimapia.org/1616733/ to create an augmented reality for the Stanford students to play in while they study and talk with each other. And he wants more zoom, such as this.

Cooltown wants to reduce http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_degrees_of_separation to a smaller integer

The current operator of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, who recently testified in front of some Congressional subcommittee, might not be asked back again because of what he did in February 2007 which I had to point out in my 2007 Message to Senator Lieberman. I have already spoken my peace about how I would prefer to see Florence *really* in charge of the day-to-day wiki and leave Jimmy to some strictly emeritus status to worry about long-range issues like the financial survival of the project beyond the three-year horizon. Florence would probably do little, which is *exactly* how it should be. Then plagiarists like David Gerard would just be mostly ignored (especially if his original account is retired) unless he can come up with some new ideas that are not hate-based, self-aggrandizing or some pathetic playing-out of trying to be false superhero. Wikipedia has been successful in providing a new index to much of the information that is available elsewhere on the Internet, and that is has become an acceptable amateur encyclopedia in its own right. But Wikipedia is not reaching its full potential. One should examine both Wikipedia Review for news on English Wikipedia (WP) because The Wikipedia Signpost does not report on WP as much as much. An excellent source of information on the people of Wikipedia is Daniel Brandt's Hive Mind page which pulls the masks off the fake superheros at WP. WikiTruth and other such sites provide some additional information. We should seriously consider the implications of what having Wikipedia and other Web 2.0 sites mean for our society. Jimmy Wales has mostly been trying to pull the reins in on Wikipedia to keep it from disappearing in a mountain of libel lawsuits, which is smart of Wales. Wikipedia and other sites seem to enjoy protection from Section 230 of the CDA. Anyway, enough about Wikipedia; it is useful but some higher-ups seem to be clawing for an even-greater share of attribution and credit for the success of the project.

Cooltown visits the hivemind page frequently.

Cooltown is highly amused about the results of this search: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=tracking+banned+user . Cooltown wonders when the IRA agents still planted in London are going to re-educate David Gerard about what is worth being such a mean guy about.

Cooltown has not yet made up her mind about how she feels about Kira's Naked Quiz. Cooltown is pretty sure that:

  • There are 6 "Mega Man" games made for the NES.
  • The temperature levels in a nuclear reactor are maintained primarily by the use of coolants. (An oversimplification, I suppose)
  • CO (carbon monoide) is a molecular gas (The oxides of metals such as calcium, lithium and aluminum are ionic solids)
  • A strontium atoms differs from a strontium ion in that the atom has a greater number of electrons (the strontium ion is positive because of the loss of an electron)
  • Beta particles have a negative charge (again an oversimplifcation: the typical "beta ray" is an electron)
  • A battery is consists of eletrochemical cells

Cooltown notices that most 12-year-old Wikipedia admins or even the 13 year-old ones are unlikely to already know the answers beforehand. That article would be Winnipeg boy has hand in controlling what you see on volunteer-based Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia by Thomson Gale, July 28th, 2007 (text of article no longer freely available on demand), about a 13-year-old boy is named Mitchell Duce and he lives in Winnipeg, the capital of the province of Manitoba, Canada. Curiously, it is archived as this Amazon Digital Locker. $10 for 1692 words. Note that the familiar form of Mitchell is Mitch. Note outcome of this search.

Cooltown thinks that Angela Beesley, is a nice person, but she notes how this video and this one are superficially similar in style because of how the camera is hand-held and shakes and stuff and how the questions are asked. Zoom in on and see every pore and eyelash. Florence Devouard and see every freckle and eyebrow hair and some of the fibers in her irises. Actually, she is a smart and nice geneticist.
Cooltown knows that Kat Walsh is a smart and accomplished person. Cooltown likes that Kat reads GEB (note1. Cooltown does not like too much airbrushing of Kat, even if she is going to become a lawyer. Cooltown wants to see all the moles and pores of the skin and the hairs in the nostrils. The airbrushing loses data.

Cooltown noticed JzG who runs this website and makes little effort to hide this fact. Guy is mostly talk and does not appear on the FA list. Cooltown noticed Durova .

This braindump is partially the result of Amorrow's brief career at ED, mostly because of their page on Amorrow which is mostly due to the efforts of Blissyu2.

Autopsies:

Drop dead gorgeous (Morticians name their favorite cosmetics brands) Philippines; Revlon wins, hands down.

(YT has plenty of morgue scenes)

In this scene and this scene from Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, they deal with funerals and being a mortician.

Here is a thoughtful, high-minded approach that mixes fiction acting with reality autopsy in a very beautiful way:

  • Autopsy scene (music is Matthaus Passion, BWV 244, voice is Rock Hudson?) scene of "Han Violado a una Mujer", Tac-tac (1982), at the end. "If could, I would force each and every one of us to see this."

They use an inferior recording. The best in our lifetimes is this one.

Of course, censorship kicked on the scene in Oranges where Jesse is naked and talks about men being "beasts", but you can still see some images of Charlotte Coleman's very hot anatomy here. Colemen, it turns out, is dead (fatal allergic reaction is the theory). Coleman is already over 18 in the film but she looks and acts like she is about 14, which only adds to the angst-ridden sexual and voyeuristic tension. Another fun coincidence, Barbara Hicks plays very interesting character roles in both Oranges and in the film Brazil, (which is about data, love and cosmetic surgery).

Take-home message: opt for cremation and get all zen about it. Much better karma.

Body image:

Anatomy
Gross anatomy videos note how the doctor touches the flesh with her bare hands. She does not even bother to take off her engagement ring. It is more typical to use bare hands for the older, more experienced physicians.
