Proposed new profession that will initially police itself and aspire to become a licensed profession in California: The Data Surveyor (DS).
The mandate of the DS is to be a human vanguard for the coming, massive innervation of society by public network. As a working assumption, we will settle for the notion that the network will initially be the Internet, perhaps with a large percentage of it using HTTPS. The DS's is to provide a strong suction on all knowable data in our public spaces. Unlike the Civics Generalist, the DS will not actively seek to offer advice. The DW amasses data in as massively parallel a process as possible (much like the human eye) and attempts a rough reduction of the data, with some filtering of low-value data. The resulting semi-processed feed will then be forwarded to a facility for further processing and archival and sharing. The data management model will be design after the Space Telescope Science Institute, but the subject will be inner space rather than outer space.
The DW is just a human version of the Google Car.
